My quilt will be arriving within a couple of weeks, and I am looking forward to enjoying its beauty and warmth. I purchased the quilt through http://www.sowersofjireh.com
The Sowers of Jireh: Sewing, Quilting, and Silk Screening is located in San Vicente, El Salvador. In 2011, a small group of people--originally from Calgary--had a dream: to start a sewing center which would create local employment in El Salvador. They started with one sewing machine and a pile of used jeans. Since then the business has grown and expanded to include t-shirts, baskets, placemats, coasters, jewellery, wallets and purses, as well as their beautiful quilts in various sizes. You can design your own quilt if you wish. Not only will I have a lovely quilt for our bed, but it makes me feel good that I am helping to create employment. I found the stories of the people who work at the center inspiring. Check out those stories and the lovely products being produced: http://www.sowersofjireh.com Donations are also accepted. I will post a photo of my quilt within the next couple weeks. It seemed appropriate on this Remembrance Day to post a photo of maple leaves. This photo was taken in Golden, Colorado, during my recent visit there to attend the Women Writing the West Conference. The colors were gorgeous, and this maple tree just outside the hotel reminded me of home. Today, I remember all the men and women in the military who protect us and those who gave their lives for us. |
